Where acoustic ceiling tiles work best

Ceiling tiles are the simplest way to add a large area of absorption to a room, because the ceiling is usually its biggest free surface. They suit open-plan offices, meeting rooms, clinics, classrooms, shops and corridors: anywhere with a suspended grid ceiling where speech and background noise need to settle down.

They are also a common upgrade in an existing office. If the grid is in good condition, plain tiles can often be swapped for acoustic ones without touching the walls, which makes them an easy part of an office fit-out or refresh. One thing tiles do not do on their own is stop sound passing between rooms. If partitions stop at the ceiling grid, sound can travel through the void above and down into the next room. For private meeting rooms, the partition, or a barrier above it, usually needs to continue up to the slab.

How we supply and install them

Tiles drop into an exposed T-grid, so most of the work is in the grid: setting it level, coordinating it with lights, AC diffusers, sprinklers and access panels, and cutting the perimeter tiles neatly. Edge profiles, such as square or recessed (tegular), change how the finished ceiling looks. In Dubai, tiles near kitchens and wet areas should be chosen to resist humidity.
